It’s been many years since I’ve taken up a challenge for charity but I’ve dusted off my halo and picked up up the gauntlet. Make no mistake, this is a plea for sponsorship… I thought I’d get that in early (for all those people that might have stopped reading early ;) ) but this time it’s an interesting challenge so hopefully you can dig deep.

I’m taking part in a rally, from the UK to Croatia. It’s called “Sucata Split” and involves driving the 1400 miles… in a car that costs less than £250. It’s not a race (i.e it’s not timed) it’s just about getting from A to B. Think it sounds easy? Well so far…

  • We spent about 20 hours just trying to find a car on the interweb….
  • Once we hit the “buy it” button, we found out it was in Yorkshire….
  • It broke down just trying to get it back…
  • It cost as much to fix it as it did to buy it…
  • We sat in services until 01:30AM waiting for the RAC… and we’ve not even left the country yet….
  • We have it back on the drive but now it wont start.

OK, so you get the general impression. Could be a lot of fun, but could be a bleedin’ nightmare!

Either way, PLEASE take a look at www.What-Would-Arnie-Do.co.uk which is our blog that follows our progress. In a shameless attempt to raise awareness and gain some sponsorship I’m going to be emailing all my contacts from ACarTooFar from the What-Would-Arnie-Do.co.uk “challenge blog” and that includes you. If you don’t want me to subscribe you, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

Why are we doing this?

For all good challenges, there should be a good reason and this is no exception. We are suporting a charity called Gemin-i (www.Gemin-i.org) which helps educate and connect young people across the globe, primarily in developing countries. Funds from this challenge will be helping to fund an HIV and AIDS awareness project with over 60,000 children around the globe. We believe this is a long term, sustainable and effective way to help combat some of the most pressing issues we face accross the world. In short, it’s a really good, long term solution and it needs your help. Donate to Gemin-i through our team and you will be making a change to the world for a long time
